Sandwell Community Caring Trust (SCCT) provides care for the elderly and those with profound disabilities from 67 sites across the West Midlands and South West. It has grown rapidly to employ over 600 staff, with an annual turnover in excess of £14m. To keep up with demand in this expanding sector, SSCT came to Baxendale to develop its investment approach to secure an immediate £4m investment in a new care home, and to prepare for future investment decisions. SCCT recognised the need to gain expert support to help with how it presented the business to investors to increase the chance of securing successful long-term investment.
We reviewed the current investment and asset portfolio to inform our development of a growth strategy for SCCT. Our growth strategy included the development of an investment strategy, business model and investment case to inform immediate and longer-term investment planning. Recognising SCCT’s need to attract social investment, we assessed for the first time SCCT’s full social and economic impact. This was supported by strategic marketing and communications plans, as well as the brokering of initial meetings with investors. As a result SCCT has secured initial commitments for the funding of the care home and we are continuing to work with them to complete the deal.
“Working with Baxendale has transformed the way we look at the development of our business. We are now looking at raising capital in a much more strategic way to support a broader drive into supported living housing provision both locally but also potentially across the UK.” – Geoff Walker, Chief Executive
