Epic is one of the first Pathfinder Mutuals to spin out with the aid of government, and the first youth services directorate to spin out wholesale from a local authority. Epic’s leadership team came to us because they wanted to grow further and provide services beyond their principal contract. To do so for the first time, intensive commercial development and bid support was required to identify and win commercially viable contracts in order expand the breadth and sustainability of Epic’s service offer.
We developed an end-to-end tendering process, providing Epic with a framework from which to qualify and develop competitive bids. We supported initial bids, transferring bid writing skills to the business development team as well as working with Epic’s leadership and board on their 5 year growth strategy. Alongside this, we developed dynamic cost and pricing models that allowed Epic to accurately understand the commercial make-up of future bids, and price them to demonstrate maximum value for money. So far, this work has resulted in Epic being awarded a new £700k Play Service contract. This success has led to us being retained in 2015-6 to develop an investible model for Epic’s twenty-first century youth services, as well as supporting Epic on their first employee share issue, and authoring Epic’s first ever Social Impact Report.
“Over the past 18 months, we have come to regard Baxendale as trusted business partners because of the challenge and energy their team brings to every task. They have put 110% in to make sure Epic takes the necessary leaps forward to achieve our long term strategic purpose.” – Brendan O’Keefe, Managing Director
