We helped Livewell Southwest win £127m+ contract to deliver children’s services

We are thrilled that on 1 April 2019 Livewell Southwest started delivering a contract to provide community health services for children, young people and families in Plymouth.

The contract covers mental and physical health services, wellbeing and preventive services and care and support for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Whole Family Approach

We worked with Livewell’s team to develop a model for children’s services that takes a ‘whole family approach’ – tailoring the service to both the individual and the family’s strengths, needs and goals. They’ll work with partners and community service providers to deliver coordinated support wrapped around the whole family, from pre-conception to transition to adulthood.

This model is based on the iThrive framework, a needs-led approach to delivering mental health services for children, young people and their families where the emphasis is placed on prevention and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing.

As part of that, the model involves children, young people and families in shaping, evaluating and developing services, and will shift focus to promoting and supporting physical and mental wellbeing. This emphasis on prevention will reduce the need for more specialist intervention, ensuring children and young people are supported at the earliest stage.

Forming partnerships

As well as supporting the Livewell team with their future service model, we helped them form a partnership approach with STP partners including the local acute and mental health providers, plus the voluntary sector – recognising that the voluntary sector would be well-placed to support the delivery of the preventative elements of iThrive.

We then worked closely with the team to develop the workforce and financial models to deliver transformed services whilst managing forecast demand increases against significant cost pressures, before leading the writing of the bid response on behalf of the client.

Dr Adam Morris, chief executive of Livewell Southwest, said: “We are excited to be part of this opportunity to make sure these crucial services are the best they can be, and contribute towards improving and transforming lives of our future generations.

“By developing a pro-active, community-focussed approach to children’s health services, we aim to ensure that those who need help most get the level of service they require, while encouraging and developing healthy lifestyles across the region.”

Well done Livewell, and we look forward to working with you in future service transformation.
