Those challenges cannot be solved by government or charity alone. We believe business can bring the creativity and commercial expertise vital to identifying much-needed solutions.
We know that old models of business as usual can be unsustainable, wasteful and exploitative – but with the right approach business can achieve high impact positive outcomes at scale for clients, employees and the communities in which we all work.
At Baxendale our goal is to work with those who share our values and want to make a positive difference in everything they do.
We work with pioneering organisations and inspiring individuals to tackle big challenges in innovative ways – from developing affordable, replicable solutions to social issues, to creating highly-productive employee owned businesses.
Our unique offer combines specialist social consultancy, investment and partnership to deliver significant financial and social impact and build a responsible future.
We set out to make a positive difference in everything we do – it’s what gets us out of bed in the morning and we share that in common with our clients.
Our business is founded on honest and trusting relationships – both with our clients, but also between the members of our own team.
Empathy and open-mindedness are vital – to understand the challenges and ambitions of our clients and their customers. This is essential to design truly creative solutions.
It is imperative we bring commercial excellence to every aspect of our work – from the support we give our clients to succeed, to the way we run our own business. Without financial sustainability, we can accomplish nothing.
Happy employees are the secret to a highly effective business – which is why we prioritise individual fulfilment and job satisfaction, for ourselves as well as our clients.
Our company began life in 1866 as a family-owned foundry, manufacturing railway carriages and gas lit lampposts. Over time we changed emphasis in the products manufactured, becoming the leading maker of domestic boilers in the UK.
After many years of research on fairer alternatives to the family-owned model, Philip Baxendale – whose great grandfather had started the business – took the company into employee trust ownership in 1983 enabling employees to share in wealth creation, participation and fulfilment from working in the company of their fellow owners.
In 2000, having sold its manufacturing activities, the company developed into a capital fund and consultancy service called Baxi Partnership specialising in supporting mutual and employee ownership, carrying on the vision of Philip Baxendale.
In the same year, the original Trust Deed was strengthened and enshrined in perpetuity by The Baxi Partnership Trusts Act 2000. To our knowledge, we are the only employee-owned company in the UK whose formation and aims are underlined by an Act of Parliament created solely for that purpose.
In recognition of the importance of this history, 30 years after Philip took the original business into employee ownership, in 2013 we re-branded the business simply Baxendale.
